Biathlon - Power Mixed With Precision
Biathlon - The Games in Pyeongchang tickets will get you a front row seat to one of the most iconic sports at the Games in Pyeongchang. Biathlon combines the power and stamina of cross-country skiing with the nerve and marksmanship of shooting. The roots of the sport come from the basic survival skills needed to survive the long cold winters in the wilds of Scandinavia, where people hunted on skis and carried their rifles with them. If you've never seen a Biathlon event before you're in for a surprise, as the competitors cover a cross-country course carrying a specially-designed rifle and stopping at firing ranges to shoot at targets. Add to this the fact that it is a race-to-the-finish competition and the tension is palpable. Get your Biathlon tickets here and see this unique sport at the Games in Pyeongchang.
The first recorded biathlon competition took place along the Norway-Sweden border in 1767 between patrol companies of both companies. The first modern biathlon is believed to have taken place in 1912 when the Forvarsrennet started in Oslo. This was an annual event which consisted of a 17km cross-country ski race and penalties that were incurred for missing targets in the shooting. Biathlon, in its current form, first appeared at the Games in 1960 and the Women's biathlon came several years later in 1992.
